One of the most visited pages on our website is our FAQ (frequently asked questions page), this was written about 4 years ago and today the content covered on this page is still just as relevant today. We have however had some other questions that come up over the years:
Most people have never been around real latex. Rubber gloves, band aids and other common items usually have very little natural latex. Latex allergies can be either contact or respiratory. People with contact allergies should not have issues with a latex mattress as you do not come into contact with it. The odds are a lot greater you would have reactions to the chemical experiments in traditional beds and the good news is if you have a concern a latex allergy test is a simple fast test.
Not even competitive here, we have the largest selection of latex and natural spring mattresses on the East Coast. One store sells a cheaply made natural latex bed covered in a chemically laden bamboo (AKA polyester) cover and require you to get a Dr. note stating you have allergies so they can eliminate any need to pass fire code. Our products pass with natural materials including wool which also helps you regulate body temperature and is dust mite resistant. A piece of Dunlop latex wrapped in a polyester cover will sleep extremely warm and the cover will have to be regularly replaced. Good news here is we have better product at a lower price without all the gimmicks or infomercials to go with it. All the other latex sellers in Raleigh are “Natural” (meaning has some latex but is still mainly chemically based) or only have a thin layer of synthetic latex over polyurethane foam.
In most cases it is a good idea to replace your existing box spring/ foundation. Your new natural mattress should last 10-30 years and if you use and existing box spring it is likely not going to last as long as the mattress and have to be replaced at some point. If you do choose to use your existing box spring you do need to keep an eye out for potential sagging as well as make sure it is allowing for proper ventilation to prevent molding in the humid triangle weather.
The internet has more bad information than it does good. Internet forums are designed to lead you to products that the website gets a referral if you purchase from them, in some cases a mattress manufacturer actually owns the website which recommends products. One site even has painfully long videos by a “good ole boy” pitchman as good as Billy Bob selling a sham wow on an early Sunday morning infomercial. Most of the information given is inaccurate or over hyped and the only goal of these painful to watch videos is to keep you on the website longer which is one of the criteria google uses to list the order of your site compared to others.
This is listed on our products page for most of our mattresses but some that are fully configurable are not due the customization of the product and pricing. In Queen size a “natural” mattress made with all-natural latex and springs will start under $1500 with an all latex (all natural) starting just under $2000. In a king these would be around $2000 for a spring with latex or around $2400 in an all latex product. For the purest mattresses out that that are not only “all natural” but also 3rd party certified organic these usually have a 20-25% premium to cover the costs of the certification as well as the added quality in the workmanship in these products. We sell the best certified organic and natural mattresses in Raleigh, that means online or in person rest assured The Organic Bedroom chooses only the best. Being the #1 Organic and Natural Store on the East Coast we can pick and choose what we carry and if we do not sell it in our store there is definitely a reason why.
Over our 6 years of selling mattresses we have learned a lot, we consider ourselves some of the top experts in the US on natural mattresses and truly do have the best products around. We look forward to you visiting us and trying our products in our no pressure relaxed showroom but if you have any specific questions not answered in our FAQ or this post (FAQ 2.0) feel free to call us at 919-521-5566.

Last year we wrote an article called 5 Years Later which became one of our more popular articles. This blog discussed the ever-changing mattress business over the period The Organic Bedroom has been in business. So, in celebration of our 6th Birthday we are updating our article with some insight into the history of organic mattresses in our 6 years of business. Overall, we’ve seen a lot of change in the organic mattress world. While we know that change is generally good and very important as we continue to learn and evolve, we also find that change that is not properly managed might be negative. Here are some areas in which we’ve seen the greatest impact to the industry.
1. Six years ago it was difficult to find a showroom in our area in which a consumer could try several different organic mattress brands and models. The Organic Bedroom came along and changed the landscape by opening a large retail showroom in Raleigh, North Carolina (we currently have 26 organic and natural mattresses on our showroom floor). We keep regular business hours and always have an expert in the showroom during those hours, with one of the two owners available over 95% of the time. We remain the only locally owned and operated organic mattress store in Raleigh and live in the community in which we operate our store.
2. When you have a great idea you expect “copycats”. We are the best at what we do (we state this as a fact as we are confident we are the most knowledgeable company on the US on Organic and natural materials). We understand our products and customers and we provide a standard of service that is hard to find these days. We know our concept has been copied and although it is flattering that others appreciate our hard work (while at the same time they are trying to avoid doing the hard work on their end), it is also frustrating when competitors actually steal our information to the point where they cut and paste original photos and copy content from our website. We’ve had to spend a little more time monitoring this as some of those potentially good meaning people may be using the stolen information incorrectly which may lead to customers not being properly informed.
3. Organic and other certifications have evolved. Back when we first opened there was not a third party certification for organic latex so we had to trust our suppliers that they were using the most pure all-natural latex available. Since then we’ve seen new certifications for a wide array of materials as well as a newer certification for the entire mattress. As a consumer it is good to know that if you are purchasing something “organic” that it has been certified as organic. The tricky part to understand is when companies who product and sell their products are actually the same companies or have a relationship with the companies who perform the certifications. This information is difficult to find but it is available.
4. There is some dishonesty in the standard mattress industry that is starting to flow over to the organic mattress industry. Some of the reason for this is the growth within the industry with the development of online retailers as well as standard mattress retailers who may see dollar signs in organic mattresses and attempt to go after those dollars although they really do not understand or believe in the benefits of natural materials as opposed to the toxic soup in traditional mattresses. We pride ourselves in being honest and running our business with strong ethical standards and high level of integrity. We only carry the purest cleanest products available and we know what they are made out of. We also pride ourselves in being completely honest about our products and services.
5. Be careful looking at online reviews. We love looking at what others have to say about a certain product or place and often it is helpful. Unfortunately, there are fake reviews and blog articles out there that people get paid to write. There are laws, rules and guidelines around reviews that should be followed but sometimes are not. Look for reviews that are not written by the owner, an employee or a friend of the company. If a review seems too good to be true it probably is. A review by somebody who was paid or was given a product with the sole purpose of reviewing are generally positive reviews because who is going to provide a poor review on a product that they received for free? Lastly, watch out for reviews by “experts”. Many experts out there are self proclaimed experts and may not have any more knowledge about a product than somebody who has shopped for or who owns the same product.
With the huge growth in organic and natural mattress over the past years, we are sure there will continue to be money hungry companies putting out inferior products and exaggerating the purity and quality of their products. We pride ourselves in staying on top of new products and innovations in the organic mattress industry. If there is a great new product introduced, we will completely investigate it and carry it in our showroom if it passes our standards. We spend much or our time working closely with various manufacturers to develop products that help our customers. We have chosen the absolute best brands and models to display and sell to our special customer base in the area in which we have our showroom and we will continue to offer only the best organic mattresses and bedding available. If a product is not sold at The Organic Bedroom, there probably is a reason why. We look forward to our 2019 article about being the Triangle’s #1 organic mattress store for 7 years. Happy and healthy sleeping to you!

Consumers are researching the internet then going to traditional mattress and department stores or the internet with the idea they that want a mattress made with more natural and healthy materials but coming away with more marketing hype and little no natural materials in their new cheaply made mattress. Many companies are now using names for materials that sound more natural and organic. Unfortunately, most of these materials are the same synthetic foams and polyesters disguised by natural sounding names.
As experts in the field of natural and organic materials, we would like to offer some advice to help you in not making the expensive and frustrating mistake of purchasing something that you aren’t happy with and not what you really wanted.
If you conduct a search using Google using the terms “organic mattress” and/or “latex mattress”, most of the pages that come back in your search are not what you are looking for. The first few items are paid advertisers from anywhere around the world who are experts in making you think you are getting what you are looking for. Many of these companies are able to accomplish the task of coming up first in web searches for many different products and they sell whatever products they have access to. Be cautious of these companies because they come and go and can be operating out of anywhere and are only in the first ad spot due to their ability to spend a lot on internet advertising.
The word natural is used all of the time for many different products and materials. A memory foam bed made of polyurethane foam and doused with chemicals and covered with a cover that contains just a small amount of cotton can be marketed as “natural” or made with natural materials. Natural is a term that is over exaggerated and used way too often in all consumer products. Look for all-natural untreated materials and look at every material in the mattress – not just the cover!
These are probably the most common terms that people fall prey to. Mattresses made with foam that claims to be plant or soy based foam are made with polyurethane foam that may be infused with 10-20% of a soy or plant based substance. All other materials remain the same so there are no benefits to these mattresses for consumers but they definitely benefit the retailers and they sure are creative on marketing it to be more than it is.
Some certifications such as Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS) and Global Organic Latex Standards (GOLS) are true third-party certifications that are used throughout the textile and latex industries. There are other certifications that claim a product doesn’t contain formaldehyde or heavy metals or a product has low VOCs. Those certifications come from organization that are managed by chemical companies. The same chemical companies that want to continue putting chemicals in consumer products because that is how they make money.
This one may surprise you but to process bamboo from a plant stalk to a fiber that can be used in textiles is a very chemically comprehensive process as well as in many casing very environmentally harmful. Most bedding items such as mattresses and pillows that are marketed as “bamboo” products only contain a cover that is made with bamboo fibers. The inside is generally foam. There is at least one company that fills a cheaply made bamboo cover that does not contain any wool with natural latex and calls it an organic mattress. A mattress made like this with no flame resistant wool would go up in flames immediately as both bamboo and latex are highly flammable and the bamboo is full of chemicals. Including wool also provides the benefits of body temperature regulation and dust mite resistance.
This one is a good one. Why would a company who is known for mass-producing and selling traditional mattresses come out with a “natural” version? There is one answer to this – money! Do mattress manufacturers and retaillers care about the health of their consumers? Do retailers who sell traditional mattresses made by mass producers care about the health and wellness of their customers? If you believe in natural and organic mattress materials then you don’t believe in toxic and chemical based mattress materials. If a company believes in natural and organic bedding then why produce traditional bedding at all? Also, are all of these produced in the same facility? The companies who do this are those same companies that often show up in the first lines of your internet searches.
One mattress fits all philosophy. In a perfect world, a retailer could rent enough space to fit one mattress and that’s the one everyone would buy. There would be no need to rent, heat and cool large spaces. The new fad of buying the one mattress that the internet company sells and returning it if you don’t like it is great if you are the small percentage of population that likes that one level of plushness or firmness. Fortunately, the internet companies build the returns and the fee or discounted toppers into their price so they still make a significant profit on each mattress roll packed and mailed to a customer. We have seen statistics that 20-30% of mattresses purchased online are returned what a hassle and what a waste of resources and money. Why not just try a mattress out and actually finid the one that is right for you?
Advertising gimmicks such as the compare to XXX. This is where a retailer presents a mattress worth $800 and asks the consumer to compare it to high-end brands that cost thousands of dollars more. This creates a value to the consumer for higher end brands that are of lesser quality than those they are compared to. Believe me there are no mattresses sold on the internet that are of equal quality to the higher end brands they are comaring themselves to. A better comparison would probabaly be the truckload sale on the side of the road.
Wow, that’s a lot of reviews for one company. When a mattress company has hundreds and even thousands of 5-star reviews something just isn’t right and these reviews are more than likely farmed. I think we are all smart enough not to fall for this one.
Telling you how greedy and expensive everyone is why they sell you a cheap mattress. This seems to be a new strategy gain your trust by making everyone else seem bad while at the same time luring you into marketing gimmicks. There is one company that has hours of videos under a educational name telling you about all the tricky sales tactics as they give you pitch similar to TV infomercials. Did you want Ginsu Knives or a good nights sleep?
Shopping for healthy mattresses for your family has never been easy. Now that Organic and Natural mattresses are becoming more popular, it is difficult to distinguish between the greedy traditional companies who are entering the market to increase sales versus the real companies who are offering safe and healthy products because they truly care. We, at The Organic Bedroom can take pride in:
Best of luck on your search and if we can help, let us.

In the spirit of the subject of “fake news” we would like to take this opportunity to talk about myths that we dispel regularly. The customers who visit our store come in armed with loads of research from various websites, conversations with manufacturers of traditional mattresses and conversations with retailers of traditional mattresses. Much of the information we hear is either not true at all or only partially true.
Here are a few of the subjects that seem to be on most people’s minds in regards to mattresses and mattress shopping.
MYTH: The roll packed “bed in a box” concept is the future!
RESPONSE: Probably not. We agree that the manufacturers of roll packed mattresses that are shipped directly to your door are an incredible marketing concept. But the products are nothing more than you can buy in any retail store. You are getting exactly what you pay for and nothing more. Most of these mattresses are one size fits all mattresses and if you don’t like the comfort the company will first try and send a topper. If that doesn’t work you can “return” it which actually means you donate it or give it away, send in proof that you no longer own it and you get your money back. For anyone who has never worked in retail, that return policy is built into the price you pay and so is the shipping. So what you are really paying for is the cost of shipping the mattress, the packaging materials, the return policy (a percentage that the company determines will be returned is applied), marketing (very large percentage) and the actual product, which is made of very inexpensive synthetic materials. These companies are not mattress companies nor do they care what they are selling. These companies are marketing and internet companies who have mastered the art of putting their advertisements in your face every time you access a website. It’s a fun trend that is not sustainable. As soon as a new trendy product is introduced, these same marketing companies will jump on it and go through the process again.
MYTH: You really do get 50%-70% off on those Clearance Sales.
RESPONSE: Wow – this is a good one! If the sale price is real then why can you buy the same exact mattress at the store next door for the same undiscounted price? Prices are made up and model numbers are changed from store to store so nobody really knows what 50-70% off is because you never know what the actual undiscounted price is. With manufacturer wholesale prices lists in hand, it is still almost impossible for even us to comparison shop. It is very hard for the average consumer to know what they are getting for the price they are paying.
MYTH: All mattresses have chemical flame-retardants.
RESPONSE: WROOOONG! All mattresses have to pass U.S. flame testing standards. While many companies use very toxic and unregulated chemicals to do this, wool by itself can and does pass this test. Some companies train their employees to say the in order to avoid chemicals you have to have your bed custom made or you need a doctor’s note but that is not true. You can get a bed made with wool in the cover and that passes U.S. flame testing. The wool is also dust mite resistant and temperature regulating so there are many other benefits to buying a mattress made with organic and natural materials. You really do want your mattress to have some sort of fire protection. Latex as well as other internal componants of mattresses are extraordinarily flammable and you are risking the saftety of your family to get one made without it being flame resitant. We just don’t think toxic chemicals are the solution since it can be accomplished with natural healthy materials.
MYTH: Organic and natural mattresses are expensive!
RESPONSE: Again, WROOONG! Mattresses made with organic and natural materials are priced in line with some of the major brands of traditional mattresses sold in retail stores. If you are comparing traditional mattresses that are considered of higher quality based on the manufacturer’s own claims, you will find that organic and natural mattresses are not only priced equally and in some cases lower and are of much higher quality.
MYTH: Mattresses made with natural materials have bugs in them. ]
RESPONSE: Yes, you read that right. We have actually had customers tell as that there is a particular store who has actually said the organic and natural mattresses have bugs. We welcome an independent council to inspect our mattresses for bugs. The natural properties of wool are dust mite resistance so all mattresses that have wool inside or in the cover will be free of dust mites. Also, all wool, cotton and latex used in any manufacturing process is cleaned with pure water and organic and natural cleaning detergents. Many of the materials are certified organic by a third party certification company.
MYTH: Mattresses made with organic and natural materials are not comfortable and do not last long.
RESPONSE: Mattresses made with organic and natural materials are generally longer lasting and more supportive for a longer time that regular mattresses. Traditional mattresses use almost 100% synthetic materials. Manufacturers of some of the more well known brands that made a higher quality mattress 15-20 years ago seem to be using lesser quality materials and the same brands aren’t holding up as long as they used to. The polyurethane foam that is currently being produced does not seem to have a long lifespan and mattresses are breaking down much faster. Of course, this helps the mattress industry as a whole because the faster your mattress breaks down, the sooner you need a new one. Not only do organic and natural mattresses have a longer lifespan in general but if they do ever make it into landfills they are much better for the environment than synthetic and petro-chemical based materials. We will definitely not tell you to replace it every 8 years because with quality products they will last substantially longer!
There are many other myths in regards to mattresses floating around and we could go on and on but it is better for you to take some time and avoid the fake news before making such an important buying decision.

A common question that we get from our customers is around chemical flame-retardants versus natural flame barriers. We always talk about wool being a natural flame barrier as well as the many other benefits of having wool in and around your mattress.
Lately there seems to be an influx of online retailers and even some showrooms where the message to consumers it to buy mattresses with no flame barriers. Because all mattresses sold by retailers in the United States must be certified that they have been flame tested these “garage” manufacturers and retailers are using alternative methods to sell non-compliant mattresses to consumers. It seems as though there are retailers who are advertising that as long as you come in with a note or prescription from a doctor you can purchase a “mattress without flame retardants”. Some retailers will even provide you with a doctor and/or prescription if needed. They are basically selling a bamboo knit cover with layers of latex.
A mattress with wool quilted into a cotton cover (no skin contact) can pass the US Flame Standard testing without the use of flame retardant chemicals. Not only does the wool help with decreasing the flammability of the mattress but it has so many other benefits that an unsuspecting consumer might not realize.
Of course if you do have a medical condition preventing you from using wool we can help you out with prescription and other options but be concerned about sales pitches where you need a prescription or note from a doctor to buy any mattress, especially those in which a prescription can easily be obtained by the seller. It’s just a way to cut material from your mattress with no concern for your well being. If you want a longer lasting, cleaner and safer all-natural mattress, make sure it contains wool. And if you really want to make your sleeping area perfect try wool pillows and a wool duvet insert.

Last week I had a short time in which to accomplish what should have been a very simple product exchange at one of the big “mega” home improvement stores in town. I had tickets to a football game and before I had to leave for the game I wanted to run this one quick errand. I wouldn’t have even had to go back to this particular store to make the exchange except that the item I purchased previously did include all of the parts in the box.
It wasn’t the best time to make this exchange but my contractor was scheduled to arrive early the next morning and this item was needed to complete the product. So I fought through rush hour traffic and finally made it to the store. I went directly to the customer service desk where I thought I would show the associate where the parts were missing, return the item and receive a replacement. Once in front of the associate I was asked multiple unnecessary questions and then I had to stand and wait while somebody else was called up to assist as the customer service representative had not been trained on how to handle product exchanges. The whole task took much longer than I anticipated which left me somewhat annoyed.
I then proceeded to a drive through restaurant to pick up a quick bite to eat (please don’t judge). The line was long but it was dinnertime so I patiently waited. I ordered, paid and received my bag of food. Items were missing! I showed the associate my slip and the bag and apparently that caused confusion because the associate and her co-workers just stood their dumfounded. Eventually a manager came over and gave me the missing items. It was a frustrating experience but that seems to be the new normal in customer service.
I arrived home and pick up my family to attend the football game. This was our first time attending a football game at the NC State Wolfpack field so I assumed it was like all other events that we’ve attended at this location and we would be directed to general parking. Well that wasn’t the case. Although there were ample parking attendants on the parking lot, there was nobody outside of the lot to direct drivers so I ended up in an area in which you need a permit to park. I asked two separate traffic directors where general parking was and one person tried to help and the other was completely rude and said to just keep going. It was frustrating because we still weren’t sure where to go. Just as we were about to leave the lot a very nice parking attendant gave us advice on where we could go to park. Finally, some good service!
We opened our store almost 4 ½ years ago. Our original concept began when we were mattress shoppers and we experienced and witnessed very poor customer service in many of the local stores. We saw mattress stores using all kinds of gimmicks to attract customers and once an unsuspecting person enters they become a raw chicken in an alligator pond. If you don’t understand what I’m saying then go in any big chain mattress store right now and see for yourself.
Our model is different – we went into this business to provide a customer experience that is outstanding and to respect every person that comes into our store. The idea of offering organic and natural bedding came after and once we realized that we would not only be able to offer the most comfortable mattresses with no chemicals it was a win win situation for us and our customers. After 4 ½ years we are still holding to our original model. Overall the mattress industry has changed, manufacturers and retail stores have merged, corporate executives have moved from company to company and now one of the largest retailers in the U.S. (Mattress Firm/Sleepy’s) is owned by a South African company.
We don’t have hundreds of stores and we may not be able to offer the gimmicky promotions that the “big” stores offer but what we can offer is so much more. We promise to always:
1. Provide our customers with honest information and outstanding customer service. We will not pressure our customers to purchase anything they are not comfortable with and will not offer gimmicky incentives to purchase items that aren’t necessary. We will offer various sales and in-store or manufacturer promotions throughout the year and these will be clearly communicated on our website and in our store.
2. Carry the absolute best products in the industry. We spend a lot of time researching, reviewing and testing new products as they are introduced. Our decisions on what to carry depend heavily on quality of the product, quality and availability of materials, logistics and overall customer service of manufacturer’s personnel. We know our products are the best on the market and we are confident that if any “better” products are introduced to the market you will find them in our store.
3. Be professional. We make it our responsibility to answer all of your questions and to be as highly knowledgeable about our products and materials as we possibly can be. If for some reason we can’t immediately answer your question, we guarantee that we will get an answer as soon as we can so you have all of the information you need to make a great decision. Sleep is important!

There are many myths about Organic and Natural Mattresses. Here are the 7 myths that are heard over and over from traditional mattress stores:
March 24, 2016
One of the questions we get asked most by our customers is whether or not latex is actually natural and what makes it natural. The confusion often stems from the vast amounts of information (good and bad) that is gained by Internet searches or through conversations with sales associates at traditional retail mattress and department stores. We are going to provide some information to help in understanding latex in mattresses.
Latex – If you are told that a mattress contains “latex”, this statement means nothing. The word latex is used for various combinations of latex and polyurethane foam. Some latex is even synthetic which means it is polyurethane foam with added chemicals to make it react like latex. Consumers should take time to understand exactly the type and contents of the latex in a mattress they are considering.
Blended Latex – This material does contain some latex but it also contains chemicals. As little as 30% or less of actual latex can be in the product leaving 70% or more chemical additives. This material will contain chemicals that are not identified on any tags.
Natural Latex (sometimes referred to as 100% Natural Latex) - This wording is very confusing to consumers. It looks like the material is all latex but words can be deceiving. Natural latex may or may not be blended latex, which contains petroleum bases chemicals. Using this terminology is a way for retail sales associates to exaggerate the natural portion of blended latex. It is unfair and deceptive but if you understand the terms and know what to look for you will not be fooled.
All-Natural Latex - This is what you are looking for if you want a truly natural product. When you see a mattress labeled as “All-Natural Latex”, the mattress will be made from only the drip from the rubber tree with the exception of the very small percentage of vulcanization agent needed to keep the latex softer and conforming. All-Natural latex does not contain the harmful chemicals found in polyurethane foam and no chemicals are added to make it react differently than its natural properties.
Certified Organic Latex - When all-natural latex is certified by a 3rd party organization such as the Global Organic Latex Standards (GOLS) it means that the entire production process has gone through a rigorous process when each step is certified from beginning to end. If this is important to you, we have mattresses that contain only certified organic all-natural latex.
Dunlop Latex - Dunlop refers to the process in which latex is manufactured. Dunlop is the original method for processing latex and within Dunlop latex you will find all-natural and certified all-natural as well as some blended and synthetic versions. Dunlop latex is known for great support and longevity.
Talalay Latex – Talalay also refers to a manufacturing process and not materials. Most talalay latex on the market is synthetic or blended (natural). The Organic Bedroom specializes in only carrying all-natural talalay latex so you will not find blended or synthetic talalay latex in our store. At this time there is no organic certification process in place for talalay latex so the best you can get is all-natural. Talalay latex is known for its pressure relief properties as well as its consistent feel.
When choosing your new latex mattress be sure to ask if the mattress is made with 100% all-natural latex, especially if you are looking to reduce the amount of chemicals in your mattress. Because many of our customers come in armed with knowledge gained through Internet searches and conversations with retail sales associates, we often have to spend some time “busting” myths before we get down to business.
These are some common myths that we’ve “busted” for you:

The Glenwood Avenue landscape in Raleigh is well known in the Triangle area as being the place to buy furniture. You will find large national chain stores, local stores, department stores that carry furniture and those famous stores that are perpetually “Going Out of Business” and are “Liquidating All Assets”. Furniture stores are great if you are buying furniture. They are not so great when you are looking for that comfortable space that you spend one-third of your life on – your mattress.
The main reason anyone even considers buying a mattress from a furniture or department store is convenience. You spend so much time choosing the “perfect” bedroom set and by the time you finally decide to make the purchase you remember that the new bed needs a new mattress. The furniture sales associate doesn’t know anything about mattresses and the furniture store randomly chose some mattresses to display on their showroom floor not knowing whether they are comfortable, of high-quality or the materials that are used to make them. You end up just choosing one of the three or four mattresses on display with the furniture so you can pay all at once and have everything delivered together.
A mattress purchase should be a big decision that is made only after you have gathered facts. You spend more time on your mattress than any other piece of furniture with possibly the exception of your office chair. You should understand the materials in your mattress as your body and face will be against it all night every night.
There also are no local furniture stores that offer a natural or organic options. Some stores try to pass off petroleum based soy or bio-foam mattresses covered in a Chinese made bamboo cover as a healthy mattress but nobody else has mattresses made with all natural or certified organic materials from the inside out. We became much more educated recently on our annual trip to the High Point Furniture Market. We learned how some mattress manufacturers only sell their mattresses through furniture stores as the convenience hook is a much easier sale than the process of educating the consumer on the benefits of particular mattresses.
