Your sheets are in direct contact with your skin EVERY night which equates to approximately one-third of your life. Which means, choosing the right type of sheets to sleep on matters. Unfortunately, most conventional sheets contain chemical finishes, synthetic dyes, and fabric treatments that can trigger allergies or sensitivities. At The Organic Bedroom, we believe that truly healthy sleep starts with what touches your body, which is why we specialize in organic, natural-fiber sheets that support both your health and the environment.
The Organic Bedroom offers a variety of healthy sheets that provide different types of comfort, temperature regulation, moisture control, and in a wide variety of colors.
Cotton
Organic cotton sheets are the most popular type of natural/organic sheets known for breathability, softness, durability, and price. Look for GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified cotton, which ensures the fabric was grown without pesticides and processed without harmful chemicals. Cotton sheets in a Sateen weave are super soft, making them the more popular cotton sheet option. Percale sheets are crisper, but they're offer superior breathability which helps people sleep cooler.
Linen
For even more luxurious softness, organic linen sheets (made from flax) offer exceptional durability and a naturally relaxed texture that improves over time. Linen's hollow fibers wick moisture away from your body and provide superior temperature regulation, ideal for hot sleepers or anyone who is going through hormonal changes. Linen sheets have a relaxed, slightly textured feel that many people love, though some find them rough at first. The main downside are the higher upfront cost and a tendency to wrinkle easily.
Hemp
Hemp sheets are one of the most durable and eco-friendly options available, requiring minimal water and pesticides to produce. Hemp sheets are breathable, antimicrobial, and soften over time similar to linen, but they tend to feel a bit more structured initially. Hemp also holds up exceptionally well to repeated washing. The trade-offs are a slightly coarser feel at first and more limited availability/styles compared to other fabrics.
Bamboo
Bamboo sheets, often labeled as bamboo viscose, lyocell, or Tencel™ are prized for their silky-smooth feel and excellent moisture-wicking, making them a strong choice for hot sleepers. Lyocell (including Tencel™) uses a more closed-loop production process that’s generally considered cleaner than traditional viscose, while still delivering that soft, drapey texture. They’re breathable, resist odors, and feel soft right out of the package. The trade-offs are that durability can be lower than linen or hemp over time, and quality varies depending on whether the sheets are true lyocell versus more heavily processed bamboo viscose.
Flannel
For cold-weather comfort, organic flannel sheets offer brushed cotton warmth without synthetic coatings.
Brands we trust for natural & organic sheets:
These brands use low-impact dyes and avoid chemical flame retardants, wrinkle-resistant treatments, and "easy-care" finishes that compromise the fabric's natural properties.
Making the switch to organic & natural sheets is one of the simplest ways to reduce your toxicity exposure and improve your sleep environment. Your skin is your body's largest organ; treat it with the respect it deserves by choosing sheets that are as clean and natural as the organic mattress you sleep on.
