FAQs

General

Organic and all natural mattresses are made with natural materials such as wool, cotton, and natural latex. We do not sell products containing chemical flame retardants, polyurethane foams, or any other harmful chemicals that may be found in conventional mattresses.

We may be biased, but there are several benefits to switching to organic and all natural mattresses and bedding. The main reason that we stay away from conventional materials is that they can lead to long-term health issues, such as cancer, nervous system damage, and respiratory issues. Also, natural mattresses have a much longer lifespan than conventional mattresses, with the average lifespan of our mattresses ranging from 15 to 20 years.

We have a large variety of products from Naturepedic, Hypnos, Berkeley Ergonomics, Whitney Natural, Joma Kiwi Collection, OMI, iAdjust, Savvy Rest, Gotcha Covered, Coyuchi, Sleep & Beyond, Greenington, Reverie, Glideaway, and Eangee.

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer a trial period on our mattresses.

If a trial period is something you are in need of, we do have some mattress brands that offer a Comfort Exchange Program for an initial period (typically 90 days), allowing you to change the feel of your mattress if it isn’t quite right.

We are located in the Oak Park Shopping Center on Glenwood Avenue one mile North of Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh, North Carolina. Our address is 5230 Hollyridge Drive.

Materials

The most common materials in our mattresses are cotton, wool, and latex. Some other materials you may see are silk, horse hair, camel hair, alpaca hair, bamboo, PLA, kapok, buckwheat, and more! All of our materials are chemical free and responsibly sourced.

The materials in our products are considered natural as they are not synthetically produced and have not been exposed to harmful pesticides, pollution, or other chemicals that may be harmful. Organic materials go a step above this and come with third-party certifications that confirm the quality of these materials.

Natural latex is made from liquid rubber, which is tapped from the rubber tree in a process similar to tapping maple trees for sap. This liquid rubber is then baked in a sterile mold until it solidifies into a foam-like substance, aka, our natural latex!

Memory foam is made from petroleum byproducts, and it is packed full of harmful chemicals and harsh flame retardants. Memory foam has been linked to both short term health problems like skin irritation and headaches as well as long term health issues like cancer, respiratory issues, and nervous system damage.

GOTS and GOLS are the global organic standards for textiles and latex, respectively, and they are usually the most sought after certifications in our store. These third party certifications ensure that a product follows organic standards from sourcing all the way through final production.

There are no chemical flame retardants in our mattresses. The only flame retardant in our mattresses is natural wool, which actually requires more oxygen than is in the air to burn. All of our mattresses meet fire safety code and are tested to be safe.

Many of our mattresses can be made without wool, and we have a selection of beds that can be made without latex as well. If you would like to take samples of these materials to your allergist for testing, we offer samples of wool batting and as well as latex.

Please note: most of our brands require a doctor’s note in order to make a mattress without wool. This is because wool acts as our mattresses’ flame retardant, and without the wool, there is no fire protection.

Products

Our mattresses range from super soft to super firm and everywhere in between. Most of our mattresses can be configured with a firmer side and a softer side, allowing a couple with different firmness needs to share the same mattress.

All of our mattresses are made in the USA.

Accessories like sheets, mattress protectors, comforters are made by US companies with materials sourced from all over the world. For more information on the origin of certain products, please visit the product page(s) on our website or give us a call.

Almost all of our mattresses can be used with an adjustable base - there are very few exceptions. If a mattress is not intended for use on an adjustable base, it will be disclosed on the product page.

Youth mattresses are built specifically for those with smaller bodies and less weight, mainly children.

Your mattress should be on a level, breathable surface such as a foundation, slatted platform, or coir rug, unless you are using an adjustable base. Please note that slats should be no more than 3 inches apart for slatted platforms.

We offer most conventional sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King. We also can make mattresses in custom sizes like Full XL or Olympic Queen.

If you’re interested in a custom mattress, give us a call and we’ll see how we can help you out.

While it is not required, we strongly recommend the use of a mattress protector to protect your investment. Our protectors are washable and breathable, so you won’t feel like you’re sleeping on plastic.

Most of our sheets will fit mattress depths of 15”, with many of our sheet sets compatible with 18” mattresses. Refer to specific product pages for more information about fit.

A latex topper is often used to add a new layer to your mattress, to add softness and pressure relief. A wool topper is often added for a more pillowy, plush feel, as well as added temperature relief. The decision of whether to choose a latex or wool topper usually comes down to personal preference and what feels best.

We have a wide selection of pillows made from wool, cotton, shredded latex, solid latex, and more. Selecting the right pillow for you depends on the type of support your neck needs and the materials that feel comfortable to you.

Our most popular pillows are the adjustable shredded latex pillows and wool pillows.

We do have floor samples of many of our accessories like pillows and comforters for our customers to see, feel, and experience in the store.
